About Us

Our Vision: Empowerment through Movement

Our Mission: The mission of Ballet San Angelo is to foster creativity, self-esteem, health and discipline through dance, helping people reach their full potential, reducing barriers to involvement, and serving our area with the highest level of training, community programs and original productions.

Ballet San Angelo (BSA) (formerly San Angelo Civic Ballet) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement and preservation of our cultural heritage in the art form of ballet, community service, and movement education.

Ballet San Angelo (BSA) is ready to meet the current challenges of working as educators and artists, providing hope, health, and redefined accessibility with this past year's addition of virtual offerings. Our core areas of work are: 1) dance education, 2) outreach, 3) fitness programming and 4) productions of the highest professional quality possible. All of our work is grounded in the educational, therapeutic, and artistic potential of dance.

DANCE EDUCATION - BSA has a unique open-enrollment community ballet program that is enriched by components more typical of a professional dance company, namely an internationally recognized curriculum, full pilates support program, an original repertory of work, a full-service costuming department, multiple performance venues on our campus, and collaborative relationships with a ready orchestra, professional tech and lighting team.

Our ballet curriculum from Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) is augmented by the organization's commitment to continued education from CPYB, Canada's National Ballet School, ABT, Dance for PD©, and Arts Umbrella. The Academy, defined as Primary A - PPL, builds on our Children's Division, which is an early childhood program for exploring movement, building confidence, coordination, socialization, and expression. This past year, BSA added David Weaver to our ballet staff, whose background includes SAB training and professional work.

OUTREACH - Joy of Movement is our flagship outreach program for seniors with neurological challenges including Parkinson's. Moving to virtual work has put a multiplier on, reaching numbers we never imagined possible. Our Tuition Assistance program assures that no child will be excluded from classes for lack of income. A growing avenue of outreach is our collaborations with local human service and arts organizations. In the past year alone, we added Meals for the Elderly and West Texas Alzheimer's Association, and continued working with San Angelo ISD, West Texas Rehab, Baptist Retirement/Buckner, West Texas Counseling & Guidance and San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.

FITNESS - BSAFit is in its fifth year, offering a professional and supportive environment for strengthening, flexibility, and social connection. BSAFit offerings include Yoga, Piyo, Pilates, a unique ballet-based conditioning class developed by our AD called BSABarre, and now Soul Fusion.

PRODUCTIONS - For 38+ years, BSA has served as an incubator for original dance works. We produce the highest quality professional dance productions possible, as well as collaborating with other performing arts organizations. BSA is a key player in recruiting cultural tourism to our area, annually producing: an experimental Contemporary Works show, The Nutcracker, a spring Children's Ballet, and a Student Showcase celebrating student progress and demonstrating the curriculum's potential to family and friends.
